i am not special, but neither are you

“You see, if everyone is special, then no one is.”

I agree with that entire paragraph. All we care about is whether or not we get some kind of physical proof that we did something or that we tried something. And when we find out that there isn’t a participation trophy or ribbon involved, our pride gets hurt a little bit and we no longer have an interest in the matter. We all want to be the best and be able to rub it in someone’s face.

“…do whatever you do for no reason other than you love it and believe in its importance.”

When you think about the paragraph above, you can see why someone may do something because of the title or things that may come with it. Sure, you might not like it, but it pays the bills.

Sometimes thoughts like that irritate me because why would a person do something they hate because of the money involved or the authoritative power that comes with it? But then I realize that I’m one of those people. I catch myself thinking about how much money I could make going into Computer Science. I could make about twice as much money by myself coding, as my parents do combined. But the more I think about it, the more I  realize how much I enjoy working at Toys R Us and would probably be happier there not making that much than in some corporate building typing away all day despite the fact that I’d be banking.
